General Christopher C. LaNeye is the 40th Chief of Staff of the Army, the senior military officer of the United States Army and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
As Chief of Staff, General LaNeye is responsible for the organization, training, and equipping of 1.3 million Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve Soldiers and Department of the Army Civilians. He serves as the principal military advisor to the Secretary of the Army and the President on Army matters.
General LaNeye is a career Infantry officer who has commanded at every level from platoon to corps. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College.
Throughout his career, General LaNeye has served in key leadership positions across the globe, including multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, and numerous other military honors.
General LaNeye holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
He is married and has two children. General LaNeye is committed to leading the Army through modernization, readiness, and the development of our most important asset—our Soldiers.
